Old e-books

I have noticed over the last year or so a lot of people on my flist posting about transferring or reformatting ebooks in order to be able to read them on a tablet or on another device.

So, I have a question, I have old .ebo books which I used to have on my old laptop. Before it died, I transferred them all over to an external harddrive.

After that, when I got my desktop, then transferred them over to the comp figuring that I'd get around to being able to reread them then. Never did obviously.

But I have this little tablet that I have downloaded the Kindle app on so I can read all the ebooks I've bought from Amazon.

What programs/apps/whatever would you recommend that I use/download so that I can access these old ebooks, or are they a lost cause?
